This wedding will forever hold a special memory for me, I remember back in April 2023 receiving a message from Lucy, it went along the lines of, “I know you’ve only just started up Bud Hut, but I love your work and I wondered whether you do weddings as we want to support someone locally for our wedding flowers ideally”… Firstly, I did a little happy dance (who wouldn’t?!) and once I’d gathered my thoughts I set to work on gathering a brief from Lucy and drawing up a mood board.
I remember vividly the wedding consultation, my first official one under the Bud Hut name, I was terrified but beyond excited at the thought of being able to bring this wonderful couple’s vision to life.
Lucy & Victor opted for a beautiful autumnal theme for their October wedding at Southdowns Manor, Petersfield; Think burnt oranges, deep red and all the textures. We wanted to create big, bold, romantic florals that really packed an autumnal punch with a special request to include Dahlia’s if it was at all possible – we knew this was a risk as the season is usually over by October but I’m ever the optimist!
Lucy opted for a big, bouncy garden style bouquet with flowing burnt orange bouquet drapes and a smaller version for her Maid of Honour, a matching buttonhole for Victor and smaller neutral buttonholes for the groomsmen and not to mention the most adorable flower wand for the smallest of all flower girls! The tables would be beautifully adorned with cut glass bud vases which had been thoughtfully collected in the lead up to the special day and worked perfectly to give a unique, relaxed but colourful touch to the registry & reception tables. We supplied a mix of the autumnal flowers to perfectly compliment the naked wedding cake created by Cakes by Tamsin Pearson and to say it came together perfectly is an understatement!
Despite it being late in the Dahlia season we managed to source the last of the Hampshire grown Dahlias lovingly grown by Flowers from the Farm; they really did add such a wow moment to the florals and I’m so thankful that the flower gods were looking down on us to allow the Café Au Lait dreams to become a reality!
Jason Williams Photography did the most wonderful job of capturing the abundance of colours, textures and the uniqueness of this special day and whilst we look back on this wedding it’s hard not to have a pinch me moment – It’s not often I sit and think “blinking ‘eck I did that” but this one will forever hold a special place in Bud Hut history!
Lucy & Victor, if you’re reading – Thank you, for your trust & enthusiasm in Bud Hut’s work and for supporting local independent businesses. We wish you all the happiest of years ahead!
